about

Tuhao (土豪 ) refers to people who are rich but uncultured. They are often described as not having the corresponding good taste, manners and sophistications to go with their accumulated wealth. In short, tuhao could be understood as the "uncouth nouveau riche ". Tu (土) means "tacky" and hao (豪) means "rich"

“Tuhao jin” is a word derived from “tuhao”, literally meaning “tuhao gold” or “the gold of tuhao”. It could also be understood as “the gold of the uncouth and wealthy in China”.

From Damacha

'Musically, the idea for Tuhaojin is inspired by combining footwork with Chinese club music aka “high” music, then adding a kind of lo-fi flavor and some other forms of electronic music thrown in, such as trap/cloud rap and even a bit of PC Music. I always thought this Chinese electronic music was pretty awesome—shitty but awesome. So I wanted to give new life to this music and turn it upside down.

Outside of the music, the concept for Tuhaojin is inspired by Shanghai’s conspicuous consumption lifestyle. I love those dudes that wear tons of gold shit and show off everything they buy so obviously, in the club with like three bitches and . Again—shitty but awesome. So I kept seeing this gold shit everywhere, gold phones gold cars gold jewelry, it’s totally not my 气质 but I love that shanghai loves gold shit. They even have those gold taxi’s now. At first I thought this “tuhao” fashion was really tacky/cheesy/tasteless, but I’ve grown to really like it. So it’s kind of like postmodernism and shit.'
